Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputies participated in the Third Annual Maryland Transportation Authority Police Plane Pull® presented by Outback Steakhouse. This is the second year the deputies have participated in the event. Participation in the event is comprised of law enforcement, businesses and community groups.
The MdTA Police Plane Pull® boasted 51 teams and succeeded in raising $92,000 in support of the sports training programs and competition opportunities that the Special Olympics provides for thousands of Maryland's citizens with mental retardation.
Deputy's Dwayne Singletary and Paul Moser coordinated the Sheriff's Office teams participation and were able to raise $1000 through private donations and team member's efforts. A good time was had by all and the team was successful in completing both a fast and lightweight pull. The Sheriff's Office team placed 23rd in the fast pull and 10th in the lightweight pull out of the 51 teams. There is a definite feeling of of accomplishment and satisfaction experienced after pulling a 145,000 pound FedX 727 plane and raising money for the Special Olympics. This is a family event for a good cause and deputies plan to participate in future events.
